The first thing I did after unboxing this timer was buy batteries. This requires two sizes of C compared to my smaller (but still large) timer of similar design, which requires nothing. The main functions of this timer are moving pointer, variable speed and variable alarm intensity. All of this could be done using old-fashioned machines and devices, although the movement of the hand wouldn't be as pleasantly smooth because you would be winding it up by setting the time. There's also no hardwired or plugged-in option that would be best for school use when permanently installed. As there are batteries it would be possible with a remote control but that is not an option. It also cannot be synced with other timers. It was a long rant about something relatively small, because other than that I really like this timer. The default red pie chart indicator makes it easy to see how much time remains in the distance. Setting the time is easy and there are many thoughtful options in this plan. There are several faceplates for setting different time ranges, all of which are stored on the timer. I was afraid to find a place to keep them. The timer may also have three pointers to the timing stored on it. It would be nice if everyone had their own sound signal, but these are just visual assistants. As someone with my own issues I love timers of all kinds and this one is definitely suitable for larger groups. There are things I would change, but the core functionality is excellent.
