Review on 🟩 Hillman Square Painted 3 Inch, Model 48268 by Jason Spainhour

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good screws and very difficult to tear the head off them.

The list items are wrong when they say "Ideal for indoor wood projects" and "Not recommended for outdoor projects or processed wood". These are externally coated screws that can be used with treated wood. Also not sure why they call them green as the color is much closer to a dark grey. I have built many outdoor activities on our few acres of high desert and the most recent was remodeling a 36 foot section of a 2X timber walkway. It can be high desert but we have a lot of snow and it's hard to go anywhere when everything starts to melt, also we water a lot in summer so the ground is always slippery. Wooden walkways like wooden walkways were the ideal solution, but hot summers blew out nails and uncoated screws rusted in a few years. Finally, the Phillips head screws I used were designed to be driven all the way in without the drill twisting out and the head falling off...which meant pulling them out and throwing them away. Square heads solved this problem as long as the driver is parallel to the head...even at a slight angle it's also exposed. mine came with a square shank but I would recommend you don't plan on running all 250's with the same bit and mine is so round I had to replace it. I paid about $14 for it and it was well worth it, but since most of my decking is bolted closer to the ends, I had to drill a pilot hole first to keep the wood from splitting. I had a box of Hillman 48275 Brown Square Drive Deck Screws and even they look the same color as them so don't buy based on color alone. Even if they were colored, all I would see was a small round head, so I didn't really care about the color.

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • I don't remember but something was
