Review on Professional Electric Dog Fence Wire Dogs by Elizabeth White

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Wire size not as advertised

My original PetSafe burial wire was installed in Spring 2010. I've had connection problems lately due to nicks in the wire from the thin outer jacket and the wire has deteriorated over the years. I decided to replace the wire with another brand with a thicker sheath. Reviews for the Extreme wire were good, claiming a thicker jacket than the brand wire. When I received the cable, I immediately noticed that it is much thinner than the PetSafe cable that I now have installed. Extreme Wire is more like 22 gauge wire than 20 gauge wire, he claims. Needless to say I am disappointed. Due to the limited time it took me to install, I went to Home Depot and purchased a PetSafe Wire. I was surprised to see that the wire has a thicker sheath than the wire I installed 10 years ago. From left to right, the Extreme Cable is on the left, followed by the new PetSafe Cable in the middle, and the 2010 PetSafe Cable. to the right. All wire clamps must be 20 gauge. You can see that the Extreme wire is much thinner but has a thicker coating than the original PetSafe wire. The new PetSafe wire has the thickest jacket ever. In summary, the new PetSafe Wire has a thicker jacket than the original wire and the Extreme Wire is thinner in diameter than the clips but has a thicker jacket than the original PetSafe Wire.
