Blade edges are sharp and perfectly aligned. There is no noticeable play in the handles. A socket head set screw on the working end of a handle is used to adjust the gap between the blades; I'm not sure about its usefulness, but if you're using the tool to pull out a large clip and didn't want to risk cutting it, it might be useful. The handles are spring-loaded, but there's no locking mechanism to keep them closed during storage; I use a zip tie - it works, but it's not very strong. Also, the handles tend to open too wide, making one-handed operation a bit awkward; If you have small hands this can be more difficult.
