Review on Black Lutron Maestro MA-L3T251-BL 300-Watt Single-Pole Digital Dimmer And Timer Switch For Incandescent And Halogen Bulbs by Kevin Silver

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice and easy to use

I used this in a bathroom that had previously had a paired switch (two single pole switches in a single standard sized outlet box) controlling a closet light and the shower fan. The bath has never has enough ventilation and I've long wanted a timer, so even though I installed a larger fan, I decided to put this in to time the fan, and let it dim the closet light for nighttime illumination. It works great. The timer has no trouble handling the current draw of the fan, and has a nice little feature that momentarily dips the current a minute or two before the time runs out, which momentarily slows the fan and lets me know if I'm running late while getting ready for work. Very nice feature.Similarly, the dimmer has a nice feature that dims the light in or out when you press the button so there is no sudden blast of light when you turn it on in the middle of the night.Dimmer brightness and timer duration are both selected using the intuitive selector to the right of each, but once set, the value is retained. So if the dimmer is set to full-on, pressing the button brings the light smoothly up to full power instead of just suddenly switching on--which you may or may not like, but is perfect for my application. You could, if you wanted, wire it to dim and time the same load, it's just a matter of how you wire it.

Pros
  • Enhances the ambiance of any room
Cons
  • May not be worth the investment for some users
