Review on 🚴 Planet Bike Beamer 3 Bicycle Headlight with Bright White LED, Compact Size: 4" x 1.25" x 1.5 by Christopher Shah

Two Might Be Better

The comparison between Beamer 5 White LED and Beamer 3 White LED is excellent. The light quality of 5 LEDs is quite white, 3 LEDs have a bluish cast. Both look very bright, but compared to the brightness of the light emitted, they don't provide enough illumination of the road as one might expect. The 5 LED seems to have a longer stroke. In contrast to other posts, I think the brackets are well thought out. Both the strap and the cam closure can be adjusted. Out of the box, the mounts were too big for my handlebars, which are just under 1 inch in diameter and 23mm in diameter (which is actually a slightly oval shape). I simply inserted the flex band with two clicks and then used the threaded camlock to make finer adjustments, no tools were required. The mounts can be adjusted to fit snugly, while allowing you to adjust the angle as needed while riding. Both flashlights have a flash setting and each is sufficient to alert others to your presence. Driving on rural, unlit roads and trails I found that my original purchase, 5 LEDs, produced less light than I wanted, so I bought 3 LEDs. After that I compared the two flashlights with new batteries from the same packaging and measured the same voltage. After comparing the lights I use both, one on each side of the stem. The configuration that works for me is low beam and high beam, 3 LEDs for low beam, 5 LEDs for high beam. I usually use rechargeable batteries and the battery life with these LED lights is very good. Battery charging can be biased so that at least one of the lights stays on even when the other goes out. With two lights, one or both can be used in flashing mode. This feature can be especially useful if you are attending a holiday parade. If you drive primarily in urban areas and want to be seen, or just legal, any of these lights could work. If you really need to see the details of what's in front of you, consider having two lights, as neither will work.

Pros
  • FL1 tested - running time: 46 hours (continuous light - 12 lm) and up to 100 hours (flashing light - 12 lm)
Cons
  • Protection
