This is a really cool alternative to the branded cable box. Return the box to the cable company and the rented cable card. The difference in the monthly cost is used to pay for the purchase of this device. We didn't have expanded digital channels on the old set top box (didn't want to pay the extra rent to upgrade) but after installing this set top box they got cheaper. A little difficult to understand, initial setup, but it's working great now! The only downside may be the inability to get any information about the watched show - such as the date it was filmed / when it first aired. But I can live with that because other perks of this set-top box aren't available in the cable company's set-top box: Netflix and Pandora pre-installed, for example. There are other built-in or pre-installed channels and nice surprises, but I can't think of those RN and out of the box, so I'll have to look later.
