Review on AKASO V1 WiFi Dash Cam: 1296P Full HD Camera with GPS, 16GB Memory Card, Phone App & Night Vision by Fuzzhead Nelson

The first unit I received looked like a return which was disappointing as it is advertised as new. I sent it back and they sent me a new one. Build quality is good, the camera feels solid and has some weight (doesn't feel cheap at all). It was easy to set up and I didn't have to format the SD card on my PC first. I only used the camera to format and everything worked fine. It's a little fiddly to snap the card into the slot, but once it's in, you don't have to worry about it. Connecting my phone to the camera's WiFi was as easy as connecting to any other WiFi network. ), except that you must remember to turn off mobile data on your phone, otherwise the Akaso Car app will not connect. Nice app, not too complicated and does what I need (adjust camera settings and upload video to phone). The camera was easy to install and the included pry tool really helped me route the power cord under the molding in my car. I routed the rest of the cable behind the kick panel carpet and it's completely invisible except where it connects to the cigarette lighter and camera. Total installation time was about 20 minutes. I drove around with the camera a bit and the videos look ok. Motion videos (while driving) are a bit pixelated, but when I stopped, the number plate of the car in front of me was easy to read. It was afternoon. Picture quality at night was good too, and there wasn't too much glare from lights and the like. Again, the license plates of the car that had stopped in front of me were clearly legible. It would be nice to be able to choose video quality/file size (good, better, best). Overall I like the camera and I'm not sure I could do better with some of the other more expensive cameras I've considered.
