Right Idea, Wrong Execution

I bought this guide a week ago to replace my worn out Eclipse style honing guide. The wider wheel bearing was attractive as it wore out on my old track. This new rail is well made, with nice moldings and a good fit and finish, but the top handle clamping system is wrong. As instructed, lightly press the blade with the stylus, then adjust the length and cut the blade. There are no guides or rails. Had to use my smallest machine square (1 1/2" x 2") to hit the blade. Then tighten the handle as instructed to hold the blade securely. That does not work! As soon as you try to tighten the handle, it twists the blade out of the square and pushes it forward a little. Hit back at the right angle, but now it was too far away, can't hit back. I fought for 35 minutes then I decided I can't do this every time I need to sharpen something. sent back.

Pros
  • BASIC SHARPENING GUIDE FOR JAPANESE CARPENTRY TOOLS: This attachment helps sharpen a Japanese planer knife and chisel evenly. By maintaining a constant angle, you can restore the blade to perfect sharpness without the hassle. It is a complete tool used by professional carpenters as well as hobbyists and novice carpenters.
Cons
