Review on BGNing Aluminum NVMe PCIe USB 3.1 HDD Enclosure - M.2 to USB SSD Hard Drive Case, Type C 3.1 M Key Connector, HDD Box for Desktop PC by Jonah Riggle

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A device with potential. But not quite there yet.

Pros: The internal chipset is a JMicron and registers itself as a UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) device under hardware control. Pros: Requires at least 0.3A to start and measure my device, with a maximum load of 0.78A. Cons: Not suitable for booting most operating systems due to limited cluster size and needs to be reformatted to 4K or 8K sectors ( this may be related to my NVME SAMSUNG 960 EVO 256GB device itself). Cons: Temperatures rise quickly for moderate file transfers, and large transfers required the fan to run in the shell. Neut: Connects to most of my devices including my desktop computer and Android phone with mid-speed SATA. Engineer suggestion: Use Thunderbolt 3 for the header, not just USB-C, for four times the bandwidth. I'm willing to accept an increase in size so that the micro-fan can help with heat dissipation.

Pros
  • Supports TRIM for SSD, Integration with USB Type-C Multiplexer and Configuration Channel (CC) Logic, PCI Express Core Specification Revision 3.1a compatible, NVM Express 1.3 compatible, USB3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 compatible, USB Mass Storage Class , Transportation Specification for Bulk Only (Revision 1.0).
Cons
  • Many features
