Bought mainly for baking bread, but useful for other purposes. We already had a small instant read thermometer, but it wasn't as accurate as this one. Part of its customization is its calibration. It has a digital display and can be switched from Fahrenheit to Celsius with the push of a button. It has a backlight for when you use it in the dark (on the grill) and a second probe which is safer to use on the grill. Using it with something that isn't in the oven also allows you to get a continuous reading, something you can't do with an instant-read thermometer.
