I bought this sharpener because I had never used a sharpener and wanted to start with something simple. I've tried both zigzag and circular motions. I found that I enjoyed the circular motion - I got into the rhythm easily. I had a fairly dull knife that I wanted to sharpen. I used pages #300 and #1000 for about 3 minutes each. I used the knife to cut the tomato and paper before sharpening and then again after so I could compare. A sharpened knife was of great importance. The water bottle came in handy for splashing water on the stone - easier and more accurate than trying to use a water bowl. The packaging is nice and compact to keep in my kitchen drawer so I don't lose a single piece. The instructions are very clear and it's nice to know I'm doing it right. Will definitely keep using this!
