Review on Gigabit Wireless AP RB951G-2HND πŸ’» Mikrotik with 1000mW Power and 5 Ports by Kichiro ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality, absolutely not expected for such a price.

The piece of iron has simply colossal settings, I once had an ASUS WL500 and I naively believed that this was a decent home router, then there was Linksys, and I had the same impression, but it turned out that they were all toys, children's toys with a price that did not correspond to them at all functionality. Now if someone asks me what to take for the house - definitely Mikrotik. I’ll just give an example, I’ll describe it in a nutshell, one enthusiast on one provider forum published a script for Mikrotik, which periodically visits the Roskomnadzor website, downloads a list of banned sites from it (which they publish for providers to block them), and then puts it to in your storage, after which routing is configured in Mikrotik, which makes a different route for all sites that are on the list, through a proxy server or an anonymizer. As a result, there are no bans for the router user, and no proxies need to be configured on local machines! What other router for such a price can do something like that? On the router itself, you can raise a VPN server, make the necessary forwarding, set up several providers, at least as a reserve, at least for balancing, in general, the possibilities are practically unlimited. The router natively supports seamless roaming. The transmitter power at maximum power is so strong that far outside (500 meters) you can see a signal on 5 antennas, although this power is excessive, a phone or laptop sees the network, but they simply cannot overcome such a distance due to their weak transmitters. And again, with such power, connecting via wi-fi while being close to the router will be problematic. Therefore, you can not think about the power of the router, believe me, it will cover a significant area.

Pros
  • Quality workmanship, made in Latvia Extensive customization options, you can do anything Very affordable price, half the price of the same ASUS Signal strength, adjustable, but the maximum gives 1W (which is even too much) Ability to use a 3G modem as a backup
Cons
  • I can’t even imagine what can be indicated in the shortcomings, I would like to write that it will be difficult for beginners, but no, there is a Quick Setup for them, which does not differ much from the ASUS settings. Apart from the fact that this model does not have the ability to connect an external external antenna (for example, for a "dacha" network in the attic), then there are simply no shortcomings.
