FIX: After using this device for a year, there is one glaring problem that negates the device's strengths - it leaves a bright halo in the corners of the image. This problem is more pronounced when scanning negatives than color slides and at first I thought it might be due to the lens I was using, but after using 3 separate lenses on 2 different 35mm SLRs it became clear that the corner brightening was not sufficient. from the scanner. The problem persisted even after using a non-original hood. At this point I decided to test the scanner by inserting the negative halfway into the light box and found that the halo remained at the edges of the scan area regardless of film orientation. There is no doubt, the halo is generated by the scanner. I even went so far as to completely disassemble the device (without guarantee of course) to clean the optical element and the light box from below. Gently applying window cleaner and wiping with a lint-free cloth improved image clarity somewhat, but haloing was as bad as ever. Note that disassembling the film scanner will void your warranty. I have a lot of experience servicing and assembling electronics and was very comfortable with the steps I took and also very comfortable with voiding my warranty, but you may not want to do any of this. While the image scan has an impressive resolution of 2400 x 3600 pixels. , every image I've scanned in the last month has required extensive digital processing to remove the halo. This was a deal breaker for me. Do not buy this product. Below is my initial review: I recently purchased this converter to convert about 600 35mm slides to digital format. I was a little unsure how the images would look digitally, but I'm happy to report that this converter delivers high image quality and is also easy to use. The device comes with almost everything you need. There are two compartments, one for negatives and one for slides. I wish the slide tray could hold more than four slides at a time, but Wolverine apparently had the foresight to pack everything into a small, slim box, so that's to be expected. The negative tray holds six negatives, which is the maximum you'll get per strip from the developer when returning your photos, so no complaints. The block is absolutely easy to use. I judge the ease of use of a digital device by my dear grandma's experience, which means if she can do it without any problems, almost anyone can do it. Thankfully, this device falls within that range and only takes two button presses to snap a picture. The only control over the image itself is the brightness, which can be easily adjusted in a sub-menu. The camera in the device takes a picture in about 5 seconds, so the longest part of the process is loading the trays. The digital picture quality is excellent. The device is rated at 8 MP and devices as low as 5 MP are only a few dollars cheaper. That was the main argument for the device, because I found 13€ for an additional 3 MP quite reasonable. After converting the slides, I was pleased to see that there were no digital artifacts in the image, other than what one would expect at an 8MP resolution. In practice, you notice quirks and anomalies in the source material long before you notice any digital signs, giving you a very accurate representation of the original photo. The light coming through the slide or negative is pleasantly bright, resulting in a sharp and accurate conversion. The best part is that the device works without being connected to a computer. The device has a small built-in memory, but supports standard SD and SDHC cards. The great thing is that you can convert materials without worrying about the PC capture process and when you're done, just pop the card into your computer and capture images with ease. I gave the device four stars because the case feels a bit cheap, but as long as you don't touch it and throw it away, there's nothing to worry about. I definitely recommend this device, especially considering the price.
