This is an excellent well made and balanced 10 inch machete. I've used it to hack away 1 inch diameter tree limbs , arms off of cactus, and to clear away weeds and small bushes. Saw back works but is not my first choice to saw away tree limbs. The machete held up very well and only needed moderate sharpening after the job was done. Made from 3Cr13 stainless steel in a Tanto saw back blade design with full tang which extends out through the base of the handle into a saw tooth pommel, which may come in handy when needing to strike something, or it can be use as a scraper. Handle is made of a soft rubberized non slip material which is comfortable to grip and hold onto. The nylon sheath is adequate but don't expect it to last a long time, mine is already starting to shred the stitching at the top of the sheath. They at least put a fold around form fitted plastic insert in the sheath to protect it from the blade and saw back, but the very top of the sheath needs added protection. I hope one day SOG offers a Kydex sheath either with this Machete or as a separate purchase. I know I'd buy one. The SOG MC04-N Machete is an excellent tool to have around the house or campsite.
