I really like this type of pitcher. This is my third. Still using the first 2 I bought over 18 years ago! I like the thick glass walls and floor. I pour hot coffee straight in without brewing, but only if the pot is already room temperature, not cold. I do not take a jug out of the fridge and pour a very hot liquid into it. In this case, I recommend using tap water to heat it from cold to warm, then at least it's ready for hot liquid. However, I would not pour boiling water into one of these jugs without first acclimatizing the jug with very hot water. Okay, enough about the temperature. I have found these to be excellent jugs for holding any type of liquid. I even keep my homemade kalua in a lidded one until the next batch. I have found these jugs to be the strongest ever, withstanding the impact of being accidentally banged against granite slabs etc and I have never caused even the tiniest crack in them. And they're beautiful enough to go from the fridge to the table for any type of gathering. However, of course put something under the jug to catch any condensation that is definitely coming from the cold/icy liquids in your jugs. I usually use decorative potholders either alone or with a napkin-style lid. I even place my pitchers on beautiful cast iron coasters with a folded plain cloth or something more decorative depending on the occasion. These are just ideas of what I've done. These pitchers are strong enough for picnics. When it comes to glass stain removal, I use Bar Keepers Friend (a non-abrasive but powerful cleaning powder). I use a cleaning product with a combination nylon scraper on one side and a sponge on the other. I don't use a lot of "elbow lube" when cleaning to avoid scratching my pretty pitchers, although what I use to clean shouldn't do that. I just don't want to risk it. As for the hard plastic lids, after 18 years of removing them for easy cleaning between refills, one of the lids finally ripped along the edge at the top rim just 2 months ago. I used clear CA on the plastic and it's been fine ever since. I have 2 types of plastic lids that come with each pitcher. I prefer the newer lids that have the screen on one side and the regular on the other. So when you want your OJ to strain, simply twist the lid until the strainer lines up with the jug's spout, or use regular pouring to block the ice chunks - it's amazing! These pitchers were the strongest I have ever owned. Mine doesn't spill when poured, but it will if the jug is placed on its side or upside down. Just use your head and make sure these liquid jugs are kept upright (and supported enough to stay upright) when transporting. I give these cute pitchers 2 thumbs up! :)
