1st & Roll is a dice based simplified version of the earlier 1st & Goal game and to be honest I like it even more. The rules are absolutely brilliant and I have no idea how they managed to make a game look like an exciting game of soccer with just a few rolls of dice. Of course there isn't much strategy here, it all boils down to guessing what type of play your opponent will be using and countering them (you know, like in soccer). The real kicker, pardon the pun, is pretty much anything you can do in a real football game, from long bombs to side kicks and blocking punts, using just three dice per player and a combination of two extra dice for others Activities such as kicks and losses. This is a testament to the elegant rule system they have come up with. While this game officially requires two players, you can have fun in a solo game by tossing some dice in the blind bag. While I should stress that this is made for two players, I still like to lose to myself every now and then. The components are great too, and the magnetic board keeps things from moving if you want to roll the dice right on the board . Everything is of very high quality, which is surprising given the game's low price. Getting into the game is very easy if the other person is familiar with soccer, so it's a great casual crossover game for friends and family who don't usually sit down to play board games but love sports. If you like board games and American football, this should already be in your collection. This is absolutely the best casual soccer game out there.
