Bird Feeder - One perch is missing

When I first opened the box I thought there were 2 perches missing but then I found one in the box. I decided to turn the brown plastic hole for the missing perch to enter upside down - effectively preventing the seeds from sloshing out of the hole - so the birds could perch on the remaining 3 perches to access the seeds and still put them in. The only bad thing is the wasp got into the hopper and was very agitated because it didn't come out until I lifted the lid. I'm allergic to bee venom so avoid all contact. The birds didn't seem to mind, but then we had a strong wind and rain and the seeds left in the bunker got wet and stuck to the inside of the walls. I took everything off after it rained, sprayed insecticide to kill the wasp, threw the seeds in the trash, washed the feeder with soap and water and let it air dry for a couple of days. Then I taped the hole that didn't have a perch, refilled the container, and hung it again. After 2 days the birds returned, as did the pesky squirrel. Guess who has the most seeds? While it was fun to watch some of the positions the squirrel had to get into to gain access to the feeder, it had to be hanging upside down at the bottom of the feeder and then release a paw to get into one of the holes to get some seeds grab, the birds didn't get their fair share. I thought the design would work well for shedding water and keeping squirrels away, but it didn't work. I will NOT buy any other of these.
