Not what they say. FIRST, this is NOT an artistic level. The material breaks easily and some colors are grainy. So if you first apply chalk to the paper and then use a wet brush, you end up with small, insoluble pieces. Pooh! It is best to pick up the color from the pencil with a wet brush (take up a lot of color with the brush, as the pigments are quite thin) and then apply it to the paper. You will be happier. Many color labels are strange and wrong. Some are completely useless. Who knows what pigments are used and if they fade easily. The artist layer usually tells you that pigments are used. This is a dirty expensive kids set. I bought them because I rarely use transparent watercolors in my work and I can handle them. But if I wanted to use REALLY good watercolor pencils I would go to Blick and buy real ones.
