I finally got my dream car, a 1977 Jeep CJ7. I am not a mechanic and far from being mechanical. When I first opened the hood, I knew nothing about all the engine components. When one day my Jeep wouldn't start, I had no idea what a distributor was or what it did. But I bought the Jeep knowing that it was designed and built to be repaired on the race track - no fancy tools, no mechanic training. After trying to fix an old splitter for several months, I bought a HEI (almost all forums recommended replacing it with a HEI or some other advanced splitter) and decided to give it a try. There are no instructions for this, but most people don't need instructions. I removed the coil (which was actually a new one I put in hoping it would fix the situation), removed the old manifold (noting the position of the rotor) and then put in the new HEI manifold. The rotor wasn't pointing to the same spot, so I had to do some TopDeadCenter research to make sure cylinder #1 (the 258 has 6) was firing. After I got the motor to TDC and the rotor was in the same position as the old distributor, I reconnected all the wires (you'll need a battery/tacho harness), connected the battery wire to the previous one. attached to the coil and then connected the battery. He held his breath, turned the key, turned a few times and started right away! It actually sounds smoother than it used to, although that could be my imagination and the fact that it hasn't run in months. Super happy with the parts. Another review mentioned the need to modify the dispensing tip due to metal type. So far, so good. I'll edit this review if anything happens, but no mods needed! I was able to reduce tangles by removing the old coil. I suppose I could take the ignition module out but I won't mess with anything since it started and I know it works!
