I needed a replacement for the old wooden perch that came with the cage. My budgie was very suspicious and refused to go near the perch for the first week. Just as I was about to give up and pull it out, he started sleeping on it. It's not his favorite place, but it's become his place to sleep at night. I think this is partly because the perch is much wider than the others. Birds with larger feet are likely to be more comfortable with the size.
