There is no flat surface in the holder for them to sit on, so use them in the center and carry them gently, starting with the center at the top. Otherwise they will wobble, roll over and possibly fall out of the holder onto the floor. They're glass, so if you have a tiled floor, that could be the end of your grinders. It's not clear which direction it's going to be rough but still pretty good like it's almost dusty and there are no instructions so I fly. Keep trying to find the coarse setting, but so far you're getting a very fine grind. Although they are damn cute on my counter :P
