2 years later still the answer to my prayers and the savior of my sanity (and bottoms)

Update 2 years after the original review (still a godsend!) I bought this almost a year ago and am still in love with it. We have a cat that occasionally feels the urge to go all the way into the litter box, point the back of the litter box toward the opening, and urinate straight ahead, aiming for as much distance as possible. We tried every type of carpet we could find (washable and waterproof) but the boxes are in a semi-off-limits area to visitors (and us) so we couldn't choose a last resort (tarpaulin looked as our best option) . Finding this rug was a godsend! It's great for picking up trail debris and even large amounts of debris if they're too eager to dig near the opening of the box) and doesn't bother my cats' paws at all (we have 4 of them, ranging from small to Maine Raccoon) . The pits are deep enough to hold anything. The functionality is amazing - we use puppy latge pads and all we have to do is lift the top layer, fold the pad, spray on top (we spray the cleaner on top, spray and leave dripping and splashing onto the underside (wipe everything off), then replace the gasket and you're good to go. We take it outside, give it a good dose of cleaning solution and hose it down every week or two depending on usage. It takes about 5 minutes! This may not apply to all, but to make it a little more hygienic/easier to clean we've trimmed the fabric wrap/edging/trimming on all sides except the side that connects to the bottom. . We had a couple of instances (while completing placement) where our cat hit the edge of the mat close enough that some urine spilled on part of the paneling. The clipping hasn't really affected its appearance, and since it's a foam rug there's no risk of it unraveling. not just my floors, but my sanity! UPDATE IN 2 YEARS: After 2 years I still love my rugs but I need to replace one. Although we trimmed the edge of the fabric, we had to leave a small portion intact (so that the two layers were still connected). One of our drawers is arranged in such a way that sometimes urine gets on or against this part. Soaking the outside of the binding helps with cleaning, but over time the inside of this seam developed urine stains until it needed replacing. HOWEVER, I still think it's 100% worth it - when I'm paying about $25 a year for clean floors and no spilled urine, I think it's an extreme deal!
