Dual function: WFH + hobby

Purchased 32UL950-W on Revain Prime Day 2020 to benefit from a small discount combined with accumulated points. This reduced the cost from very expensive to just expensive. I chose this model for two main reasons: the screen size and the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. My decision was also influenced by: I have a 55-inch LG OLED TV that I am very happy with. In these days of WFH where home office is scarce, I use LG for double duty. The HDMI input connects directly to my work-issued Dell laptop. I work 12 hour shifts on a rotating two week schedule so a high quality display can easily be viewed for hours. The second connection is via TB3 to a CalDigit TS3Plus, also via TB3 to a MacBook Late 2016 Pro where I mainly use audio/MIDI software as a hobbyist musician The second USB-C connector on the 32UL950 is used for the Logitech StreamCam, since LG doesn't have a built-in webcam, which is used for FaceTime and Zoom calls with a scope for live broadcast. This configuration allows me to easily switch between work and home by simply switching between the input ports on the LG. The OnScreen Control app is useful, but I've used Mosaic (and Magnet before that) to control window layouts in macOS 10. I chose to install them from the CD that came with them and let them auto update one by one until I reached the latest versions when installing LG. YMMV. Combined with MBP, my 50 year old eyes find the 2560 x 1440 setting the easiest to read, but I typically use 3008 x 1692 as an acceptable compromise between maximum screen real estate and readability. However, this monitor looks amazing at 3840 x 2160, which I sometimes use to stream content. On the software side, the long-awaited scalable GUI trend makes this monitor more user-friendly when running at higher resolutions, but not all legacy software will see this sort of upgrade, so switching between resolutions is nice. Before settling on this monitor I would have long considered the very capable 27UK850 (now replaced by the 27UN850) but, as mentioned, settled on this display for the larger screen and TB3 connectivity. That being said, I'm pretty sure I could run a similar configuration with the DisplayPort option on any of these monitors. The lack of a built-in webcam is an issue, and I opted for the StreamCam to use the 1080p at 60fps that supports USB 3.0 (on a USB-C connection) (at the expense of some CPU overhead). cents per pound. I've run various other USB accessories (flash drives and an external LG CD) through the 32UL950's extra ports with no problem. I appreciate having these ports as they can be useful at times. The mounting stand is solid, easy to assemble and hides the cables from view, but I am finding that my home office desk will be replaced/upgraded, at this point I will be purchasing a mounting bracket to give even more desk space to release.
