Review on πŸ“· Garmin BC 40 Wireless Backup Camera - Enhanced Compatibility with Garmin Navigators - Black by Sean Burnett

The fish eye didn't work for me.

Judging by the reviews, this camera works for many. However, I could not learn to interpret the fisheye view. And the cars are coming too fast from either side to see them. glare at night. You need a big screen navigator. I wouldn't use it with a smaller model than the 6.95 inch DriveSmart I have. Easy installation. Please note that you cannot use it with a license plate frame. In my car, the camera crashed into the area where I held my hand to fully open the trunk, but this can be worked around. Changing the battery is easy. It seems to have worked with the rechargeable 1.4V AA batteries I tried. I tested with 1.5V lithium batteries, which are recommended but not included with the camera. Easy to replace batteries. Protocol when leaving a parking space: - Either press the camera button on the navigator screen or verbally tell the navigator to turn on the camera. - Wait for the navigator to tell the camera to wake up from sleep mode and sync with the navigator. Did the sync only fail once because it was thought to be due to RF interference from a cellphone, bluetooth, device, or something else in a nearby car? - View and interpret the fisheye display. - Then, as usual, turn your attention to the background and look at the back of the car. .- As soon as the navigator detects that you are moving forward, it puts the camera into sleep mode. Or you can tell him to turn off the camera. The main problems for me: After several hours of experimenting in parking lots, I could not teach myself how to correctly interpret the display. Showing a car approaching the rear of your car is particularly bad because of the heavy fisheye distortion. A car in the oncoming lane or approaching you from behind appears further away than it really is. Barely visible left and right. There was a tight call being pulled out of a parallel space between two cars due to a speeding car on the side. To really protect you from cars passing behind you, it also needs to have cameras pointing to the right and left sides and a combo display. It will not be a $140 product. At night there is a lot of glare from the lighting in the parking lot. No wonder with the cheap lens. Unfortunately, this technologically very advanced product is making a comeback.
