Review on Audiovox XMARINE Marine Mount Antenna by Greg Birchfield

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not a complete antenna kit sold by Terk

This "kit" does not include the slotted extension cable required to use this antenna with a standard 1"-14 marine mount. The antenna has a TNC connector ( 6" from the antenna) which is too big to fit through most mounts, so my first option is to cut the TNC connector and splice the cable. The joint is located where it is constantly exposed to sun and water. Although I have successfully spliced satellite radio cables and am quite experienced with lasers and electronics, this kind of thing really annoys me. It's either a bad design by Terk or an incomplete kit. The satellite radio supermarket was polite but totally unhelpful. They insisted that their "kit" did not include an adapter. You should be the only online retailer selling an incomplete kit as even the Terk's manual (found on the web as the manual was also missing) lists the adapter as included in the kit. about what I paid for the antenna. Crutchfield antenna price is $100 but includes all parts and no headache. By the looks of it I spent 1 1/2 hours installing this on our sailboat last night when I could have sailed.
