3 sealed bearings inside - that's how ALL bike pedals should be made.Conventional bike pedals with loose 13 bearing balls rolling on races barely spin, even when brand new.Because they lay on the shelf or in the warehouse for 5-10 years, waiting to be bought, while grease dries up in 3 years.And it is a huge, tremendous, colossal PITA to take apart bike pedal, clean it, lubricate it and put it back together. Most people don't even bother to do it. When the broken pedal falls off in the middle of nowhere 50 miles away from home they just buy the new set.
