I really wanted flickering lights. I was struggling to find only twinkle lights so I decided to try these. I paid about $16 for 1 string used on an 8 foot tree. There wasn't much light, so I added a multicolored chain of regular lights. My main gripe is that I needed a soft, slow flickering setup. These lights have 8 different settings, one of which is called Flicker/Flash. It's a fast flicker followed by a fast disco flicker. There's no way to just have a slower flicker, which for me is still pretty fast. So I don't like her. We will keep them. Kids find it fun to try different crazy settings. Most of the settings are too fast/disco for even kids to want to hold for more than a few minutes. We like a slow glow or a slow fade. Hence 3 stars because it is actually not a slow flicker. But it's just a matter of preference and what you want. So maybe this rating is not fair. We've only had them for a week so I don't know if they will last.
