Review on Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM Wide Angle Lens for Canon SLR Cameras - White Box (Brand New in Bulk Packaging) by Michael Baek ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good quality product, I rate this purchase perfectly.

In addition to 85 1,2, it solves all the problems that arise in terms of a set of required focal lengths on a full matrix for portrait shooting. The blur is very pleasant and not familiar (for the better) for such a focal one! Very carefully with single half-length portraits - you should not come closer, distortions begin to appear. Perfectly conveys the volume of the picture, especially when shooting children. When buying, I tested 2 lenses - both are inferior to 1.6 in sharpness by 1.4. I didn’t notice this during practical shooting, because I’m not a fan of brick walls! Focuses very quickly, but not as tenaciously and accurately as 85 1.2 (for secondary points). I bought it after 85 1.2, and, of course, I was less impressed with the 35 1.4 picture (apparently I'm starting to get used to the good), but it categorically differs from all zooms in the image - colors, micro-contrast, flu, sharpness and again colors . I think you need to get used to it, learn how to use this focal point (in my case, for a portrait), and from the technical side, it will help 100% to realize a creative idea. In addition to vignetting (on a clear blue sky), optical distortions do not strain absolutely, and the image is very pleasing! Especially at home - it just became regular! In general, I am very pleased with the purchase - I will continue to master it!

Pros
  • Accurate color reproduction - very juicy and interesting picture Picture without backlight at 1.4 (at 50 1.4 this was observed) High micro contrast High resolution Almost no straight line distortion Focal for group portraits optimal Constructive and blend - definitely a plus! Fast focus! Light weight! Not a big depth of field - unusually nice for such a focal length!
Cons
  • On the full matrix, vignetting is noticeable - a drop in brightness at the corners of the frame (on an otonic blue sky)! At 1.4 sharpness is 85%, at 1.6 - 100% Therefore, I try to avoid a completely open hole! Chromatic aberrations stand out at 1.4-1.6 but do not always appear . Focusing in the dark in the light of street lamps on secondary points is not accurate enough, sometimes it does not work at all (at 24-70 2,8L such a problem sometimes popped up).
