Bright or dark display, no intermediate values. It works fine once you get used to it (read the instructions). Radio reception is good but speaker/sound quality is okay, but it's enough to wake you up to music rather than a nasty buzzer to start the day. It looks good and is compact so it doesn't take up much space on my bedside table. This works for me!
