For some reason it got a little worse.

We moved into a new house with carpeted living room. Last year I bought a living room rug which I really like and wanted it to stay in my living room even though I have a rug. We tried without a mat but it only ever pooled on one side. I found this rug and read positive reviews about how it prevents this even under people's dining tables. Unfortunately it didn't even last a day before it was removed from the spot and it made MORE bumps and dents on the carpet than it did before the upholstery. We were very disappointed as our rug is 8x10 and this rug was expensive. We spent the money on felt tape, which is now going in the bin.
