I have a new iPhone that cannot be used with the car stereo direct cable (it fits my iPhone 4s). However, I do have an audio port on the front of the radio that this receiver plugs directly into. After figuring out how to get my iPhone to connect to the I-Stream receiver (turn on the phone's bluetooth at about the same time you turn on the receiver), the receiver worked fine. I can't speak to the musical capabilities of the device as I only listen to books or podcasts, but it was great for them. Beep when fully active, audible tone when my iPhone reconnects, and beep when fully shut down. Good product.
