I don't personally use it for soldering (yet), but it works well as an anti-static mat to protect bare prototype boards for a product I'm working on. Especially now that the dry air of the winter months is setting in, an anti-static mat and wrist strap go a long way in preventing damage to expensive and difficult-to-replace prototypes while I'm still working from home. The mat attachment and wrist strap are easy to use, although the cords aren't very long. They fit well into my setup as I have an outlet on my desk to plug them into (see image) but that might be more of a problem for you if you don't have space to plug in an adapter close to where you work. The ground adapter is a small piece of plastic with plastic pins that go into the outlet's hot and neutral pins, and of course a metal pin that fits into the ground pin. There are then two banana plugs on the top, one each for the cable to the mat and the cable to the wrist strap. The mat and strap can also be grounded with alligator clips if desired. You can see the banana to crocodile adapters lying next to the floor mount adapter in my picture.
