Most of us value innovation and room materials that can replace traditional ones. Ceramic blades used for kitchen knives or built into scissors seemed fascinating so I was very curious to compare them in practice. These slice scissors bring high tech and exotic feel to your hands right away. They look very clean and feel lighter compared to their metal siblings. The finger holes are wide enough for all four fingers to fit easily and you can squeeze them with all the strength of your fingers. The orange material surrounding the grip feels rubbery and comfortable, but is also non-slip when your hands are wet or damp. The end of the blade is comparatively short, only about 3 inches. The pivot point keeps the ceramic blades very close for a precise feel. I sharpen my metal kitchen shears regularly, so I never think about running my finger over them like I would a chef's knife. But you can do it with them without the risk of cutting your skin if there's a big safety measure. They cut very well and I've tried different materials from paper to cardboard. According to marketing information, they stay sharp 11 times longer than metal scissors due to their hardness. When speaking of "pottery" it should not be confused with ordinary ceramics, such as those used in pots or decorative sculptures. This is zirconia, very thin and hard. I mainly use it for opening and cutting shipping boxes and packaging and for that purpose they are perfect. Much safer than my razor sharp metal scissors or knife on the seams of the packaging which can accidentally scratch the contents if you're not careful. In my opinion, the advantage of these tools over metal is their low weight. , which is very good, especially if your hand strength is decreasing, like with an elderly person or maybe a woman, or if you cut something regularly throughout the day. The second benefit is a safety factor and a reduction in the likelihood of accidentally cutting your finger. Third, they obviously don't rust like scissors when exposed to water. Finally, they're said to stay sharp 11 times longer than metal, so they should stay in peak condition for a very long time. The marketing materials say they can even be used in industrial settings, which seems to suggest that they are actually very durable. The downside, which is why I only gave them four stars, is the price. They are much more expensive than metal shears. In fact, they cost twice what carbon steel scissors of a similar quality normally cost. However, if you use hobby or work scissors on a regular basis, the additional initial cost can be offset by the cost of re-sharpening their metal counterparts, especially over time. Second, and perhaps most troubling, while ceramic is very hard, which allows it to retain its sharpness for so long, it also makes ceramic brittle. Therefore, if you drop it on a concrete floor or accidentally drop something on it, it may break or chip. Third, many steel shears are easy to disassemble and sharpen yourself on a good quality knife sharpener or whetstone. You will most likely need a professional sharpener for this job, although unless you use it very often it probably won't be necessary for very long. I really like these scissors and will see how they hold up over time. I'm sure they will last for many years if I don't accidentally damage them. I don't use them for sewing, but I find that for a tailor, seamstress, or even a crafter, the light weight with constant use can justify the extra cost in exchange for the fatigue. The shorter blade length also makes them very easy to steer and manoeuvre. It's mostly vanity, but I also love the clean, high-tech look they bring to your workspace.
