climate and summer I like ice water. I've had problems with all my coasters. Ceramic/glass are flat and there is so much condensation that it overflows and collects on the table under the stand. I also have some cork which is supposed to be absorbent but it's too much for them so they ooze out leaving round circles on the wood surfaces underneath. These coasters solved that problem. They don't absorb water so water doesn't seep through but pools at the top, but there's a rib on the outside to keep it from spilling. I still cover it with a paper towel to catch the excess so it doesn't build up and spill too much, but so far this has been the only thing that has prevented damage to my tables and desks. It also appears to be heat resistant and won't be affected by coffee mugs and the like. I find them a bit ugly, but I don't see how they could be made more aesthetically pleasing without sacrificing functionality, so overall I think they're great.
