Overall this is a very accurate and well built digital caliper for the asking price. I'm not a locksmith but I do some woodworking and for me being able to read fractional dimensions was a must! Benefits -1. The numbers are large and easy to read in daylight or in a well-lit place2. The caliper is made of stainless steel and feels solid in your hand.3. Modes can be switched from fractional to decimal and metric simply by pressing a button.4. The caliper will automatically turn off if not used for a few minutes and turn on when motion is detected. The last measurement mode will be saved for the next use.6. The caliper automatically displays fractional measurements using the lowest common denominator.7. It's VERY accurate for MY use, but be aware that I don't work above 1/64 inch in low light most of the time. The lugs will break within a year of use 3. Obviously this is NOT a top of the range caliper (Starrett/Mitutoyo) and therefore there is moderate "play" in the movement but at this price point this is to be expected. At this price I am VERY happy with the caliper and would be very happy to buy it again.
