I picked up this headset after accidentally buying the TL7610. I've only had it for about 48 hours but I've already had about 20 hours of use. I've had 10 different phone systems and headsets looking for nirvana. My job requires me to be on the phone all day. Sometimes 14 hours a day and more, that's how I become an expert for telephone systems and headsets. Setup: Initially, setup was VERY easy. You must follow the instructions for your specific base system, NOT the instructions that came with the TL7600. Instructions for connecting a headset to my system (TL8609) were at the very end of a very large manual. Press the "Hold" button for 4 seconds and BAM! registered the headset in 5 seconds. Comfort: I agree that the on-ear is a pure torture device. Hard plastic, non-adjustable earbud and didn't even get close to my ear. If it fits your ear, great, but the hard plastic hurts with prolonged use. In any case, I never like anything in my ears, so I use a headband. I find the headband on the TL7600 very comfortable. In 2 days I had it at least 20 hours. After a while I forget it's even on. I can't comment on the headband as I never use it. Ergonomics: The base is a bit strange. You really need to insert the headset from above. Makes it a little painful, but not a big problem. The headset sits right in my mouth at night and the overall feel is excellent. I find the mute button is in the perfect spot for me, and the little beep every 15 seconds is nice to remind you you're on mute. The only real issue here is how you need to route calls to the headset with my particular system. In this area, Plantronics was better. In this case, you need to dial the number and then press the select button twice to transfer it to the headset. When you get an incoming call on Line 1, you can simply press the power button on your headset. When a call comes in on Line 2, you must transfer the call to a headset. A little annoying, but I'm already doing it pretty quickly. Sound Quality: Much better than any other wireless headset I've tried. I had a Plantronics that was four times the price and people used to complain about me getting in and out of there. The further I went, the worse it got. This system is considered one of the best and now it just sits in my closet while I switched to a wired headset thinking I'd never find anything better than Plantronics. So far the thing is amazing. People say that I speak clearly and I don't have to shout over people on a conference call to be heard. Some say the volume is too loud but I don't think it is. Mine is tuned a few notches above the lowest and it sounds perfect to me. I've walked all over my house at 3600 feet and stayed connected in my house with no issues. I didn't go to the basement. Build Quality: Seems to be a well built device, some have complained that the headband is cheap and breaks. I find exactly the opposite. The headband is made of steel and has a nice soft part for your ear, while the other plastic parts feel sturdy to me. The base is hard, with only one line of lining with a small wart at the end. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. My headsets are used more in a month than most are used in a year, so I'll report in a month or so.
