Review on PJRC Teensy 2 0 by Edward Freeland

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very small and powerful for its size

I bought this Teensy to reprogram an old keyboard for use on a modern computer . Due to its small size, it is particularly easy to install in the housing without getting in the way. The software from Teensy website is extremely easy to use, all you have to do is select the .hex file and click the download button. There is an option to download the .hex file from the command line if you prefer. My only real complaint is that Teensy uses a mini USB connector. The mini-USB cable is a lot harder to find these days (in mainstream stores, at least) as it has almost entirely been superseded by the smaller, more robust micro-USB standard. Jumper wires to solder on Teensy, it will be easier to solder than soldering a bare wire in. Overall this is a great product and I haven't had any issues with it. If you need a controller that can be used in a small space, Teensy will serve you well. With that in mind, however, there are cheaper alternatives like the Arduino Leonardo if you need to use an ATMega32U microcontroller and don't have strict space-saving requirements.

Pros
  • 31.5KB Flash memory, 2.5KB RAM, 1KB EEPROM
Cons
  • Almost everything included
