(Note: I had to take a size 2 and try on 3 pairs to get a good fit.) This will be my fourth pair of Five Finger shoes. In terms of size, I'm a perfect size 44, so I chose a size 45 for the Trek Ascent Insulated. The fit was perfect, the width was good and maybe a little wider than some of the other VFF shoes I have, which is good as I usually need wide shoes (I have relatively long thin toes). The length was good too, with a snug fit and little room at the tip of the toes. I love the body of this shoe which was very comfortable and fitted well, well made and warmer than regular VFFs. My issue was the toe pockets, which were terribly uncomfortable. The seams protruded significantly into the pockets and were hard and stiff, with the toes resting partially on the left seam on one side, partially on the right seam on the other side, and partially on the center toe pocket bed. The top seam pinched and pinched the sock at some pockets. All of this together was quite excruciating and painful. Looking at some reviews that said these were the most comfortable VFFs they had, I was stunned to think/hope that maybe I got a poorly made pair and that the uncomfortable seams weren't due to the extra material were built into shoes for warmth? I have returned this pair and ordered an identical replacement in the hope that this will resolve the issue as I only use the VFF for walking/running and everyday use. I wanted to love these shoes as much as I love my other five fingers but so far I am extremely disappointed. As always, the Revain experience was quick and efficient. UPDATE: Received exact replacement (size 45). This time the left shoe fit quite well, but the right shoe had extra material in the top of the 3rd and 4th toe pocket which caused pain when walking. In general, both shoes were a bit uncomfortable in the toe pockets. I sent them back due to the uncomfortable fit but decided to take another chance and try a size 46. Although they felt a bit big they were quite comfortable and with the socks I will be wearing with these shoes for extra warmth they are quite fit too. These are the Guardians!
