Review on πŸ“Ά ZTE Falcon 4G LTE Router Z-917, GSM Unlocked Mobile WiFi Hotspot by Malik Berry

Revainrating 5 out of 5

decent device for easy internet connection and short range wi-fi

The ZTE Falcon modem used worked as expected. I bought this device to have an inexpensive temporary internet connection for a desktop PC and a couple of wireless cameras in a house under construction. As a test, I tried using the tethering's Wi-Fi capability to connect to the cameras, but the range was too short to be usable, which is to be expected from a device without external antennas. The ZTE worked great as a PC Internet gateway with a separate wireless router connected to the network card. The WLAN function would be useful, for example, to enable laptops in the same room to access the Internet. I tried using the modem with Ubuntu v.16.04.3 LTS and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Both operating systems were able to install drivers automatically and establish Internet connections. I used Windows 10's network bridge feature to allow a router connected to the PC's network card to use a ZTE connected via a USB cable as an internet gateway. The same feature is probably available on Linux, but I haven't tried it. The modem has a minimal range of functions in terms of network and routing. If you want to do something out of the ordinary, you may be out of luck. I've tried connecting to a Windows 10 PC via Remote Desktop from a remote computer on the internet, but to no avail. The problem was probably related to the port I was trying to use not being supported. This may be a limitation of the T-Mobile network and not a problem with the ZTE modem. I was able to connect to TeamViewer remotely.
