I use this to support my 12.9 inch iPad Pro to create digital art in apps like Procreate and Clip Studio. I have a fairly heavy hand when I draw, and it's strong enough to support one of my main hands so I can use external keyboard shortcuts with the other. I've had it for a few months now and it shows no major signs of wear. I managed to scratch the plastic (on the back where it's not visible) but that was during a move and I didn't pack it carefully so I call it user error :) Just be aware that plastic bits are more vulnerable that's what scrubs are for. In terms of appearance, the quality of an apple is as close as I've seen. The white plastic doesn't go that well with the aluminum body, but that's not the part you're looking at, so I can't disagree. The only downside I see is also its biggest upside, which is that it's heavy and durable. I wouldn't go for this model if you want something portable to take to work or school every day, but it's compact enough to take with you when you travel. It's worth noting that my iPad has a thin smart cover. While it fits snugly, there's not much more room (maybe a quarter inch) if you have something bulkier - 9 inches is the max width for this stand.
