CLEAN THE STOPS FIRST with Overflow Drains Update 2020!

I can't believe how many reviews are on here about how gross, moldy and dirty this is. CLEAN THE VACUUM FIRST. Buy a bottle brush and clean it. (You can get a $1 bottle brush at the dollar tree) They are BLACK and DIRTY. Of course they're dirty, you spit bacteria into them when you brush your teeth, more bacteria when you wash your hands. Hard water and mineral deposits, conditioners, soaps, toothpastes, shaving creams……. It fell down a dirty drain and expects to come out untouched with a few hairs on it. This works great, but you need a little common sense and a little effort. If your water (city or well) has too much iron, your mushrooms may turn pink. This is caused by bacteria feeding on iron from the water. When your mushrooms turn black, along with all the products you used that go down the drain, there's also manganese in the water. EVERYONE has it, city water or well water, a water softener and filters will help. Take a rag and wipe the faucet (aerator). You will see Potassium Permanganate (black). Also look at your shower head. If our mushroom turns orange, it's due to rust (most likely if you have well water). I really think the main reason your drains and fungi are turning black is mostly because of the toothpaste or the calcium it contains. When brushing your teeth, make sure you rinse and rinse your sink REALLY WELL, or just take it off to brush your teeth. My son had fungus in the sink which he never cleans. Typical kid. And he turned black. I took a 1 inch pool and spa chlorine tablet and let it sit in a single cup in 1 inch of water overnight to remove the black. Do not do that! although he removed the black to a much lighter color that doesn't look ugly. The fumes were extremely unpleasant and discolored/covered the pits on top of the "chromed" mushroom. Remove the mushroom's chrome top before experimenting with cleaning products, and do it OUTSIDE to avoid fumes! You should NEVER use chlorine in rooms with stainless steel as it will cause RUST, the fumes will do it, no need to apply chlorine to the metal itself! ...CLEAN YOUR HAIR OFF AND STOP SWIMMING TOOTHPASTE IN THE SINK while you've got the mushroom! You know you can put toothpaste in a hole in a wall. e? Yes you can! Now, if that same toothpaste can dry up and seal a hole in a wall, what do you think it can do to your drains? Please clean them. UPDATE: I noticed that all 3 sinks in my bathroom where we brush our teeth have overflow sinks. If you look down the drain there are 4 holes coming out of the top of the sink overflow. When the sink is in the drain, the bottom of the sink will rest against the drain just below these 4 overflow holes. I have never used a sink overflow for its intended purpose. I didn't even know it was really there until I tried to clean my drains very thoroughly when I suspected I might have drain flies. Then I bought a very flexible drain cleaning brush and scrubbed it thoroughly from the top overflow down and then up from each drain. It took 2 days and yes I am anal and used my irrigator for hours with a bunch of cleaning products. You would be too if you saw organic slime coming out of those drain holes. It wouldn't surprise me if I had gutter flies that feed on the crap I've cleaned up the drains. That's what happened. Any water, saliva for brushing teeth, mouthwash. Never drained into the sink. I've always had a good flow. Apparently it made its way from the bottom up into the overflow drains and not through the holes in the sink into the sewers. The funk that came up in the overflow channel was absolutely disgusting. Again, I believe the problem was caused by spilled toothpaste, which is usually thicker and more frothy than water. If you have hair on the sink, it will also end up in the drain. You have to be careful with them and I think they have to take care of them more than me. To be honest I love mushrooms and I'm going to replace the sink and counters with solid blocks with no overflow as I hate my counters anyway. I don't know if I'll be using mushrooms after this change. I can get a pop up drain and forget about it. Who knows. BUT I just wanted consumers to know what's going on with this product as I recently saw for myself. You need to remember what doesn't work in children. If you don't have a drain, that's fine, but NEVER put it down the drain when brushing your teeth. and clean drains. I spat my toothbrush into dixie cups that were thrown in the trash. Now I'm trying to get rid of the flies. and I am NOT saying it caused drain flies. But they will stay here if there is a food source for them.
