does the job

I've recently started "recycling" old sweaters, untangling them and tying them back into something else. I hand wound my first center pull ball and it took several hours. I looked at ball winders, and the experience of hand winding convinced me to pay for a little machine that can do it faster and more accurately than I can. I have no fast yarn; I just hold the sweater in one hand and use the other hand to wrap the handle so that the buckling and unbuckling happens at the same time. I don't spin my own yarn so I don't know how this will handle the stress of constant use. Finally, the main moving parts are made of plastic. But so far I'm holding up pretty well. In my opinion, it was worth the time it took. Pros: Fast, clean, and the finished balls have a dainty diamond pattern when they run out. Cons: It gets noisy when you roll in at a decent speed. If you use yarns that contain fibers like angora, your workplace will end up with fluff. Invest in a lint roller. The "sturdy table" you want to attach it to cannot be thicker than 1 inch or the clip may not be wide enough. Cons: It gets noisy when you roll in at a decent speed.
