Review on High-Performance SHIMANO Tourney 7/8-Speed Rear Derailleur for Mountain Bikes - RD-TX800-L (Black) by Tim Beardsley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A low end derailleur that is surprisingly high quality

Shimano's Tourney component line used to be the lowest 'named' line in Shimano's bicycle component hierarchy (from Tourney to XTR). But over the past decade, Shimano has gradually replaced heavy, cheap steel in the Tourney line with tighter tolerance aluminum. I wanted a full seven speed transmission for my young son's new bike and settled on a Tourney transmission with a full seven speed in the rear and three speeds in the front (21 gear combinations total). I settled on this derailleur that works with 7- or 8-speed rear cassettes and assumed it would be steel. It arrived fairly light (290 grams) and almost all aluminum with sealed bushings. He has been using it for three months and so far it has worked perfectly and accurately. Five stars.
