I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a MB 3.0L Turbo Diesel. I've been struggling with the filter cover with various tools for the last few oil changes. I chose to use a large strap wrench for the filter with a rubber seal so as not to damage the plastic cover. This worked fine a couple of times. During the last oil change, my self-made tool "broke" broke. Went to the local "Made in China" tool shop (port freight) and looked for oil filter bushings - they put that size in parentheses so it wasn't in stock. Sears and every auto parts store in town - same story. Came home disappointed and ordered the "right" tool that made that relatively tedious oil change a breeze. I'm no longer afraid to fiddle with the oil filter cover and this well thought out, perfectly fitting tool won't damage it. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. It also makes it easier to screw in properly - DIY advice, tighten properly once and use a marker or something very strong to draw a vertical line from the oil filter cap to the aluminum housing. Next time you just need to align the labels.
