If you have a cottage pan, this basket is for you. (I bought both sizes.) I gave it 5 stars despite having to lightly tighten the handle's folding/locking mechanism to my liking with large channel lock pliers. The pot hanging clip also needed some adjustment. (I'm a little picky.) It's important to remember that the butter should be at least 2-3 inches below the rim. The larger the volume and moisture content of the food, the more space you'll need to contain the bubbling oil. Carefully lower the basket and measure as you lower it to see if the oil is spilling over the pot. Plan to cook beer-battered calamari in 2 or 3 batches for more than 2 people.
