Sealed gasket with correct tack spray and silicone in lower half

I ordered a chrome rear cover for my 1998 Pontiac WS6 Trans Am. It didn't say the chrome back came with a gasket, so I ordered this Fel-Pro gasket at the same time. Well it turns out when you buy the chrome back cover for this F body it comes in a pretty dirty and runny black color so the cover was sent back and I just cleaned the back cover which I took off and the sanded surfaces. 120 grit sandpaper to give the copper pad a sticky feel and I used some high temp orange silicone where I placed it at the factory (mostly on the inside edge of the bottom half where the liquid is, not needed in the upper half). made sure the screw holes in the lid were hammered evenly and smooth, used a sander to remove any old traces of caulk, silicone, liquids and just plain dirt and I quickly sprayed the back cover as it looked and had been quite dirty Some surface rust, I replaced the magnet after removing all metal shavings from the one which was minimal after +/- 25 years which was amazing and made me happy the back wasn't broken just needed new seals and new bearings kicked in while I was there but really didn't need it, bearings were perfect but I did it anyway) Replaced the cap y after giving the oven mitt time to try each side and did at the last minute I applied silicone around 3 sides of the inner bottom edges (bottom half) and sealed it, tightened it with the standard screws (note there ss 2 bolts longer because they hang the brake cables E at the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock positions, make sure you put them back in and tighten as needed) and was leaking without that much. Also 2. NOTE! GM rear axles require a friction modifier, typically about 1 pint, to be added to the gear lube (I used GM AC-DELCO Gear Lube and AC-Delco Additive). No squeaking, not a drop of liquid, the bearings are quiet, no leaks on the rear left and right disc brakes, the job went great. FEL-PRO is one if not the best seal, I use nothing but FEL-PRO on all my boat engines and sterndrives, all my cars, trucks, down to lawn mowers, snow blowers and everything else when I can get it, because they are superior to anything else I have ever tried to use. Torque specs are a must and make sure your mating surfaces are clean, freshly rubbed, completely free of dust, oil, dirt and debris, surgically clean and the tack sprayed copper gasket is what I've used for decades and has never leaked , when I used it. keeps all gaskets in place and adds the added assurance that you won't have leaks for decades, even in the harshest environments (big-block saltwater engines, Fel-Pro gaskets outlast steel oil pans and marine props). did, they rusted before the gaskets were given!) Good luck everyone!
