Review on Enhance Your Aquarium with Marina Decor Mangrove Root, Large by Michele Martin

Revainrating 1 out of 5

He created within himself a portal to hell.

I suppose if this jewelry was solid there wouldn't be so many bad reviews. I don't know how I missed the ratings on my first playthrough. They are unreliable so the reviews are bad. I took it out of the tank to clean it because the algae love it so much. Once I broke the vacuum holding the water in the jewelry, the gates of hell opened up for me and my poor fish. He was vomiting stinky, sulphurous, white goo all over the tank. I quickly removed most of this slime from the aquarium, and the filters did the rest. Luckily I was doing a thorough cleaning, so I planned a big clean that now included removing the slime as well. Hooray! (/s) I cleaned this thing of algae. A gentle brushing with a toothbrush is sufficient to remove most algae and most of the color and texture, 30%. It started life as a beautiful brown mangrove root, then turned green and hairy as the algae took over, and now looks like a gray-greenish imitation mangrove root. I am discussing filling it with epoxy to solve water ingress issues. I don't think there is anything that can be done to fix the peeling paint/texture. Maybe if you give it a good clear coat before putting it in the tank for the first time. But then you probably have a really shiny mangrove root. Not sure which is worse. if you buy this You should also buy a gallon of epoxy to fill it up with. Some knots and broken ends also leak. Not good enough to just close the ends. Also, if you don't add suction cups or weights, it will float if you just cover the bottom. In hindsight, I wish I had spent a little more getting driftwood and cooking and soaking it instead of that.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not the best
