The packaging was a surprise. This is clearly not made in the USA as all the inscriptions are in Asian characters. The first bowl I received was well made, but later bowls were found to have manufacturing defects in the pottery - splinters that were glazed. One had a crack in the inner wall that kept growing. The design can prevent red worms from escaping. Probably more effective against mealworms and waxworms. The local reptile store recommended adding a film of water to keep the red worms from crawling out. I used distilled water as worms get irritated when tap water is used. Most likely a reaction to chloramines in tap water. The first few times I tried the bowls I saw some worms reach the edge of the bowl but then return to the bottom. A few climbed out of the bowl, but most seemed to have been left in a wet lump. I've used it about a dozen times already. In half the cases almost all the worms run away from the bowl and hide somewhere in the aviary. I suspect if there weren't lips the worms would be crawling out all the time. I have the feeling that the worms leave the bowl more often on hot days. I would give 4 stars for the design concept, but 1 star for the poor quality of the ceramics. Overall I would not buy this brand of bowl again but would look for a similar design from another company.
