CLEAR WATER / HAPPY FISH

I have a 55 gallon freshwater aquarium with 34 fish. I have a Fluval 306 canister filter with media included. I regularly do 30% water changes weekly and filter cleaning weekly. My water was fairly clear at the front of the tank but looked like a brownish tint (no tannins) on the side. There were a few times where the side view was absolutely clear, so I knew it might be clear again! I've read that dissolved organics need to be removed from the water by water changes or filter media. Tries to do 2-30% water changes per week and still brown on the side. I read about two Seachem products: 1 liter Matrix Bio Media and 100ml Purigen sachets. I called the company for information on this and it seems they want to add more bacteria to filter, as well as make the water cleaner by removing dissolved organics. I did a 30% water change, cleaned the filter, kept the old biomedia and added a new matrix. I have 75% new Matrix Bio carriers that fit in the canister. I'll add the rest as new media start generating bacteria. I also added 2 packs of Purigen to the canister. I went to bed and in the morning the water was crystal clear. It's been 3 days and still crystal clear - front and crystal clear on the side. Not sure if it was Matrix or Purigen that got my water clear but for the price I'd recommend buying both! I'll update this if I find it's just a temporary fix.
